Product details for Synology DiskStation DS1817 8-bay NAS

Are you looking for a secure, efficient way to store your data? Get the DS1817 desktop NAS from Synology. This DS1817 NAS (network-attached storage) device, unlike normal external hard drives, can be directly integrated to your network. It also needs much less power than regular PCs and offers you over enough space for all your data. It has a Quad Core 1.7 GHz processor. It has two Gigabit Ethernet ports and two 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports. With this model's 4 GB of RAM several users can access its data at the same time. The following data storage forms are available for this desktop NAS system: 0, JBOD, 10, 6, 5 and 1. Using a JBOD architecture to create a multi-disk storage space means you can combine hard drives of random sizes and will not lose the storage capacity of any of them. This is not the case with RAID levels.

Using RAID 0 means your hard drives (ideally of equal storage capacities) are interconnected and work parallely. This increases performance and speed as the work is split bewteen multiple drives, but there is no fault tolerance. RAID 1 offers you high data security through data mirroring. A replica is created of all your data from one drive to another, meaning if one crashes you will still retain all of your information. This also means that the capacity of all your drives is halved because of duplicated content. For smaller NAS systems RAID 1 is an ideal option. RAID 5 stores your data on multiple drives, which gives you high data security. If a drive begins to fail, the data it holds will be recreated and distributed to the other drives allowing users to continue working uninterrupted. For larger NAS systems with more than three hard drives RAID 5 is the ideal choice to retain optimal data security and total drive storage capacity. You get a higher level of data security when implementing RAID 6, even if two hard drives fail, the system will still be operational.

Benefit from great quality and good, comprehensive service, from the moment you order to the delivery of your purchase.
